if the earth is heating up, then why is it so cold in october?

Global warming means average temperature
Global warming refers to the yearly average temperature not to the temperature of one single week (October is just 1 week old!)
Another effect of global warming are more frequent extreme weather events like e.g. storms. very cold days, very hot days, very dry periods, periods with very high precipitation, etc.
In other words: If the first week of October in this year was "too cold" this fits exactly into the above mentioned effect of more extreme weather events.
